Place in the Sun
(Jewel Kilcher)

In my younger years
I cried all my tears
In the darkness all alone
Uncertainty in the air
Electricity everywhere
Tempers waiting to flare
Waiting to explode

It was like a dream
That I could not wake
Was drowning beneath the weight
Of the hope I would find my place in the sun
My place in the sun
My place in the sun
Just for me

Moved into my car
Didn't think I'd go very far
But I found the spotlight
But it did not warm my soul
People let me in your living rooms
You listen to my simple tunes
Just like me
People needed words for company

But I thought I'd find
A kinder world
Beyond my own
But people were just as alone
And waiting to find their place in the sun
Their place in the sun
Their place in the sun
Just for beauty

Now I'm on the other side
Of my crazy kinda life
I've seen fame and fortune, heartache, poverty
And I can see
That everything really feels the same
And are you happy with your own name?
And I don't gotta fight
Gonna be alright

I found my place in the sun
My place in the sun
My place in the sun
My place in the sun
My place in the sun
